Okay, I understand. This is definitely cheating, and I’m well aware of it, but given the amount of attention, I couldn’t ignore it.
For those unfamiliar, Star Wars: Visions is an anthology anime that tells nine separate tales set in the Star Wars world, each told in a unique way.
These are all anime from Japan, featuring stunning graphics created by a variety of animators.
They also have a lot of interesting tales to share.
The show is just dripping with flair. If you’re looking for a true Star Wars animation, I definitely suggest it.
Demon Slayer (#14)
The opening of Demon Slayer is very similar to the original Star Wars trilogy.
Tanjiro, our protagonist, has a typical life with his family until one day, while away from home, he returns to find his family horribly slain.
With a bright eyed attitude on life, he embarks on his adventure to battle against the wicked demons.
Even if Tanjiro doesn’t complain as much as Luke, Zenitsu does.
13. The Valley of the Wind’s Nausicaa
The primary character, Nausicaa, is the major source of this Ghibli film’s recommendation.
In the second trilogy, she has a lot of parallels to Rey.
Similar concepts may also be found in this anime:
Being a resourceful scavenger, discovering and navigating what seems to be a huge planet, and finally becoming sucked into a plot that is well beyond her comprehension.
The opening of the film, in particular, reminded me a lot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
12. The Verdurous Planet’s Gargantia
This one has a lot in common with the traditional scenario of two factions opposed against one other.
Our protagonist, Ledo, is first involved in the conflict before being taken to a safe location.
The planet Earth, of course, is the result of this.
And many people in this anime believed Earth remained uninhabitable even these years later, after it had been abandoned in favor of exploring the stars in search of new homes.
The notion of re-discovering ancient secrets has always intrigued me, and it reminds me a lot of how Luke discovered about the Jedi’s long-forgotten secrets before the Empire.
Jojo’s Strange Adventure (#11)
This may seem to be an odd decision (Har har). But one of the first things that sprang to me when I was watching JoJo’s was the idea of a legacy through time.
The Skywalker Saga has always been interested in bloodlines and how each descendent lives up to the legacy of their forefathers and mothers.
While the day-to-day events in each of these locations are completely distinct, the bloodline (and watching how it develops through time) is a fascinating notion that I am constantly interested in delving into.
10. Dandy in Space
This is more of a wacky choice, although Star Wars does have some wacky elements.
Accepting some of the more ridiculous aspects of Star Wars is, in my view, essential to enjoying the saga.
So, although Space Dandy shows how sci-fi can be used to propagate crazier things, it’s also quite comparable to utilizing the same environment to portray serious tales.
I believe that folks who have just seen screenshots of Space Dandy give it a terrible rap, yet its world is capable of telling intriguing and complex tales.
Kill la Kill is number nine.
Ragyo is the Emperor, and her kingdom is her clothing.
So, I realize the above sentence is a mouthful, but it’s true if you’ve seen the program.
Satsuki and Ryuko are pitted against one another.
The full danger does not become apparent until later in the series. If Satsuki takes Darth Vader’s place, the mastermind who throws them against each other is left…
If you’ve seen the show, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
And if you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly advise you to do so.
Outlaw Star (number 8)
What could be more iconically “Star Wars” (or any sci-fi, for that matter) than a motley crew of adventurers wandering across space?
When it comes to treasure-hunting space rogues, it’s difficult not to think of the crews of the Falcon, and especially Han Solo.
Outlaw Star is a superb example of how Star Wars can be at its finest when it incorporates more Space Western aspects.
7. The Final Exile
Imagine a steampunk Star Wars with a strong emphasis on the dogfights seen throughout the films (and some of my favorite games).
Star Wars has always intrigued me because of the WW1-style dogfights that the series employs in its space conflicts.
The Last Exile is one anime that does an excellent job at emulating a similar mood, partly via the usage of steampunk-era type ships, and it also makes excellent use of themes of class friction.
6. Champloo the Samurai
In this section, we learn about samurais, the origins of Vader’s armour, and the combat methods used in the original trilogy.
Samurai Champloo is perhaps one of the greatest programs for reenacting some of the famous Star Wars battles.
If we think Mugen’s fighting technique is similar to that of the prequels and sequels, then Jin represents the OT’s more precise bouts.
This program is a must-see for everyone looking for a fun samurai adventure with incredible action sequences.
5. The movie Ghost in the Shell
This Cyberpunk classic is a must-see for everyone who like science fiction.
Or if you like the Star Wars universe’s ideas of Droids being more than simply slaves.
The movie Ghost in the Shell has a lot to say about artificial life. It also has one of the most stunning sci-fi settings ever created in animation.
Anyone who wants to see something that will leave them with more things to ponder at the conclusion should watch this dark and scary movie.
4. A Single Piece
If there’s one thing that appeals to me more than anything else about Star Wars, it’s the vast world that has grown over the years.
All of the various worlds and people that inhabit them… It’s incredible.
In the gigantic anime monolith that is One Piece, the various landscapes and the thrill that comes with exploring them are both explored.
Each of the islands we visit in One Piece has a rich tale with a lot of work put into it. Plus, we get so engrossed in the individuals we encounter along the road that we are easily drawn into the goliath.
If you like the worlds created by Star Wars, you’ll enjoy the islands that the Straw Hats explore.
Gurren Lagann is the third character in the Gurren Lagann series.
This is unquestionably a program that dwarfs the Star Wars world — in fact, the Star Wars universe pales in comparison.
That, however, is not an issue in the least.
Gurren Lagann is a fantastic coming-of-age tale about a young child who is drawn into a very over-the-top battle.
Simon’s trip isn’t nearly as cheerful and starry-eyed as Luke’s.
However, their development as adults (and the saving of their worlds) is a great narrative worth viewing.
2. Bebop the Cowboy
Another anime that is comparable to Outlaw Star is the Bebop, which features a ragged team of misfits.
Outlaw Star, on the other hand, follows Han, while Bebop follows The Mandalorian.
Bebop offers a sophisticated perspective to the space-faring crew of bounty hunters that are there to survive and be paid, with many darker topics covered throughout the series.
The crew of the Bebop each has their own profound concerns that they attempt to work out during the course of the episode, with each of them reflecting on what this type of existence may lead to.
While there isn’t a Baby Yoda in the traditional sense, there is Ein.
Ein, on the other hand, is worth dying for.
